Educational blog
I studied at the Indonesian Technorat University in Bandar Lampung, Faculty of Arts and Education, Department of English Education. Now I'm in semester 3. This semester I can take 24 credits, which is 12 courses. This semester did not discourage me from going to college even though it was a pandemic and had to study online. one of the courses I took was BIPA (English for Foreign Speakers). In my opinion, the BIPA course is a fun subject besides using Indonesian by studying BIPA, we can also study with foreign students from various countries. I got a lot from this course, I could learn more about Indonesia, starting from the language, culture, Indonesian food, etc. The lecturer who teaches the BIPA course named Mr. Achmad Yudi Wahyudin, M.Pd. In BIPA lessons, we learned a lot about how to teach Indonesian about how to teach all about Indonesia to foreigners. What I just learned is that in foreign countries there are also places for Indonesian language courses. BIPA functions as an international language carried by the Ministry of Education and Culture. This BIPA program is a lesson for those who want to learn Indonesian, whose mother tongue is not Indonesian and those who come from outside Indonesia. during a pandemic like this we cannot lecture face-to-face so we are required to study online. My lecturer provides material online and provides a lot of information through webinars about BIPA and Indonesian culture. we as students have a lot of knowledge about our country Indonesia by studying this BIPA material.
Those who take part in this webinar are not only students in Indonesia, but also foreigners who are members of APPBIPA and indeed BIPA students in other countries. In that case, the speakers are great people too. one example of the seminar that I attended was "Opportunities and Challenges of Teaching BIPA". What we can get is that we can find out methods for teaching BIPA to foreigners, know the teaching media, preserve culture through BIPA teaching. the speakers at this seminar were the first: Dr. Gatot Susanto (Director of BIPA State University of Malang, Indonesia) and the second: Indroyo Sukmono (Senior Lecturer, Council on Southeast Asia Studies, Yale University, USA). The material provided really inspired us as students taking BIPA courses.
The conclusion that I can take from this seminar is that the opportunities and challenges of teaching BIPA are that by getting to know the opportunities and challenges a teacher can take appropriate actions in teaching both in terms of material and method. because the target of teaching is foreigners learning Indonesian. besides learning the language, they also learn culture from Indonesia. BIPA teachers can also be used as a medium to preserve Indonesian culture to foreigners so that Indonesian culture can be recognized by many people around the world.
